Raf Rogers has been acting and working in audition taping for almost two decades. If you’ve had a tape sent out he’s likely had some part in it. In addition to helping actors tape auditions and coaching them, he’s been a reader and camera operator for Vancouver, Toronto and LA casting directors across a variety of genres and styles. They say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something – Raf has a staggering 25,000 hours behind the camera alone.
As an actor himself, Raf approaches taping and coaching from multiple angles. He has been fortunate enough to help people book their first jobs, or tweak established actors’ work to book another prominent role. He understands this job requires a lot of focus for some and for others, a space free and easy for creative exploration. Raf’s adaptability has helped him strive to create an atmosphere where the actor can do their best work. With this new endeavor he wants to continue to give actors everything he can to make them accomplish their goals.
Raf’s a talented actor and always helpful with insight and ideas on whatever it is we might be taping for. It’s important to me, as a professional, that what I submit is of quality in performance as well as aesthetics. Raf does an amazing job at combining all elements seamlessly!
I had the opportunity to not only work alongside Raf, but also have his help taping an audition. As a co-star, Raf is generous, present, and incredibly funny – traits he also brings into his self-tape business. Making you feel at ease, giving good advice, and getting on tape what you need. With self-taping being the new normal, I know you can trust Raf to help you do your best work.
Raf is my go-to guy for self-tapes. He’s friendly, professional, trustworthy and incredibly insightful. He has also coached me through some significant roles from the audition process, to landing the role, to working on set. I have worked with him for over several months at a time on multiple shows to hone in on my character, create memorable moments and a strong arc. He is present, passionate and will get the best out of you – I promise!
For almost a decade now, I’ve worked with Raf every chance I get when I receive a self-tape request. He’s calm, easy going, insightful and provides offers for enriching the material in an encouraging and ultimately helpful manner. I know if I book Raf for a self-tape session, I’ll get the best out of my work. The proof is in the pudding: I’ve booked more jobs from taping with Raf than anyone else. I’d recommend Raf to any actor who wants to put their best work forward.
I’ve been acting for close to 30 years now and with Raf, you get someone who understands what the casting folks are looking for, what directors and producers are looking for and he will work with you until you get it down! He has a great eye for detail and you can trust that he’s read and understands the material that you are auditioning with. His many years of acting in front of the camera plus being in the audition rooms with the powers that be, gives him a very unique perspective on the process of how we can stand out amongst the sea of self tapes now. It’s a safe space and I trust Raf’s eye implicitly. He’s someone very important to our community because he’s really looking to help everyone get to the next level.
The first time I worked with Raf, I had to do two audition tapes due the next day. One was for Riverdale and I booked it. Raf kept it fun for me and went out of his way to work a little bit longer and a little bit later so I could get both tapes done. I like how Raf doesn’t try and change what I have prepared but finds small things to just give it a little extra something. He also made my last two demo tapes and makes fun edits which I love for social media! I would definitely recommend Raf.
Thanks to Raf’s technical expertise and acting coaching prowess, I was able to book my first 4 episodes on Netflix’s “Frontier” alongside Jason Momoa. As an actor himself, he makes you feel safe and free to explore the character further in front of the camera and to feel confident sending a self-tape that will achieve the result we all aim for: Booked.
Walking into a taping studio and seeing Raf brings both relief and a grin to my face. Besides being a reliable camera tech, he consistently provides thoughtful directions to consider when I want them, and a lot of laughs. I’ve booked some fantastic jobs with Raf’s valuable help as a reader and we always have a great time. If auditioning is fun, an actor’s got it made. It’s always fun with Raf.
